Season comes to a close with a WIN!

Lady Raiders Basketball Team Ends the Season With a Victory!!
The week of February 7th marked the conclusion of the season for the Dover Sherborn girls basketball team. After falling to Hopkinton, 46-39, at home, the DS team traveled to Norton to face the 2-17 Lancers. As this was the final game for both teams the Lady Raiders knew it would be a hard fought contest. At half time DS held a 7 point lead but Norton came out strong the second half and outscored the visiting team, 12-6.
Going into the final quarter the team from Dover Sherborn lead by a scant point and the lead changed hands several times over the final 8 minutes. With time running down the Lancers were forced to foul, sending the Lady Raiders to the free throw line. DS was only able to knock down 1-6 from the charity strip but it was enough to secure a 42-39 victory.
The balanced scoring by the visiting team was lead by Andrea Marx with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Co- Captain Natalie Heffernan and Tess Heffernan chipped in with 10 points each. Leah Salamone pulled down 7 boards.
DS finished the season with a league record of 5-13 and an overall record of 6-14.
Catherine Oglevee represented Dover Sherborn in the Tri Valley League Three Point contest held at Hopkinton High School. Oglevee and Natalie Heffernan were honorable mention recipients on the Tri Valley League All Star Team. Both players will represent Dover Sherborn in the All Star Game at Hopkinton High School on Friday, February 19, beginning at 5:00. Preceeding the game, at 4:00, will be the league free throw shooting contest. Natalie Heffernan will compete for DS.

Practice doesn’t make perfect! Perfect practice makes perfect and that is why it is with great pleasure that we announce our 2nd annual Dover-Sherborn youth girl’s basketball clinics. The February and April vacation clinics kick-off on
Tuesday, February 16 and Tuesday, April 20.

DS Lady Raider Basketball Developmental Clinic will include:
· Guard and post positional strategy
· Offensive and defensive fundamental drilling
· Full court transition drills with 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 5 v 5 scrimmages
· Competitions, prizes and much much moreJ

Second Round! Medfield and Bellingham

The week of January 17, 2010 saw the Dover-Sherborn girls varsity basketball team losing to Medfield-56-35 but finishing with a strong win over Bellingham, 40-17. In the Medfield game Co-Captain Natalie Heffernan and AJ Dessert lead the scoring for the Lady Raiders with 9 points each, followed by Leah Salamone who chipped in with 8. In the rebounding department Tess Heffernan lead with 9, followed by Dessert with 7 and N. Heffernan with 6. In the victory over Bellingham the DS team put forth a balanced effort in both scoring and rebounding. Catherine Oglevee lead all scorers with 10 points, followed by Leah Salamone and Natalie Heffernan with 9 each and AJ Dessert with 8. Natalie Heffernan lead in rebounding, pulling down 9. Catherine Oglevee and Tess Heffernan combined for 16 and AJ Dessert added 6. In Tri Valley League play the DS Lady Raiders are 3-8 with an overall record of 4-9 The Junior Varsity finished the week with victories over Medfield(43-30) and Bellingham(37-34). In the Medfield victory Nora Klemmer lead all scorers with 16 points, followed by Abby Greene with 11. Taylor Coutts contributed 8 points. In a closly contested game against Bellingham, Abby Greene provided the scoring spark for the Lady Riders with 14 points. The final week of January will find the DS team traveling to Medway on Tuesday and to Ashland on Friday.

Westwood, Hopkinton and Norton

The week ending January 15, 2010 saw the Dover Sherborn lady Riders go 1-2, losing to Westwood 43-25 and Hopkinton 47-28. The week ended on a high note with a 43-25 victory over Norton High School.

In the Westwood loss AJ Dessert lead the DS team with 11 rebounds, followed by Natalie Heffernan, who had 8 rebounds. Tess Heffernan lead the Raiders in scoring with 8 points.

At Hopkinton, Dessert lead the scoring and rebounding for DS with 8 points and 8 rebounds. T. Heffernan had 6 points and 6 rebounds.

In the victory over Norton sophomore Leah Salamone lead all scorers with 15 points, including 4 three point shots, 4 steals and 2 assists. CoCaptain Natalie Heffernan supported the Salamone effort with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Junior point guard Catherine Oglevee and forward AJ Dessert scored 8 points each, with Dessert pulling down 8 rebounds. Callie Welch, coming off the bench, provided some quality minutes for the Lady Raiders and finished with 6 points. The Junior Varsity team defeated the Lancers, 37-34. Nora Klemmer lead the DS scoring with 10 points. Point guard Taylor Coutts provided the spark for the victory with 9 steals and 6 assists. Next game for the Lady Raiders will be on Monday, Jan. 18, at home, when they take on Medfield at 4:00, followed by a home game versus Bellingham on Friday, January 22, at 6:30.

Holliston and Millis

It was a rough week for the DS Lady Raiders Basketball team. Playing without Co-Captain McCleary Philbin, who is lost for the season with a torn ACL, the team went down to defeat at the hands of Holliston by a score of 41-36. The DS team was lead by sophomore Andrea Marx who paced the Lady Raiders with 20 points, including four three point shots. Towards the end of the game Marx took an offensive charge and suffered a concussion. Her return to the court is on a day to day basis.

On Friday, Jan. 8, the DS team traveled to Millis for another Tri Valley League game. Playing without 40% of their starting line-up the girls suffered a 52-20 loss.

The week of Jan. 11 the team will be at Westwood on Monday, at Hopkinton on Wednesday and home to Norton on Friday. Varsity games begin at 6:30.

Medway and Ashland

The week before the Christmas break saw the Dover Sherborn girls lose two tightly contested Tri Valley League Games. The Lady Raiders gave up an 11 point lead, with six minutes remaining in the game, and lost to Medway, 50-46. The DS girls were led by Catherine Oglevee with 23 points and Natalie Heffernan with 12.
In the most recent game the Lady Raiders matched up well againsty Ashland, an extremely talented team, but came out on the short end of a 49-41 score. AJ Dessert and Tess Heffernan led the scoring with 10 points each. In the absence of senior captain McCleary Philbin, who is sidelined with a knee injury, Dessert has come off the bench in a starting role and has played some good minutes for the Lady Raiders.
The next time the DS girls take to the court will be in the Mustang Tournament at Marian High School in Framingham on Monday, Dec. 28 at 2:00 when they play No. Reading High School.

Preseason update and first game

The Dover Sherborn Girls Basketball season is in full swing!
Varsity players include Captain Natalie Heffernan, Captain McCleary Philbin, Seniors Melissa Wider, Callie Welch, and Tess Heffernan, Juniors Catherine Oglevee and Chloe Asaker and sophomores Andrea Marx, AJ Dessert and Janet Raftery. Freshman Abby Greene will be playing between the JV and varsity squads.
Junior Varsity players include: Sophomores Leah Salamone, Caroline Simms, Nicole MacDonald and Devin Collins. Freshmen on the squad are Taylor Coutts, Nora Klemmer, Julia Perlmutter, Victoria Weden, Angela Cai, Carlyn Scionti and Anna Scionti.
Prior to the first league game of the season the DS girls defeated Notre Dame Academy of Hingham in a scrimmage, 51-45. The scoring was well balanced with Natalie Heffernan, McCleary Philbin and Andrea Marx scoring 9 points apiece, followed by AJ Dessert with 8 points. Freshman Abby Greene added 8 points in the victory. The JV team was also in the winning column.
The second scrimmage of the pre season was a 37-31 victory over Weston High School. Catherine Oglevee lead all scorers with 20 points.
In the season opener the DS Raiders came up against a multi talented Medfield High School team and were on the short end of a 59-32 score. Andrea Marx led the way with 10 points followed by Oglevee with 9 points, and Philbin with 8.
